DBAHC was founded in 1995. In 2002 it moved from Los Altos, California to Chandler, Arizona, where the name was changed to Dancing Bear Healing Center.

Dancing Bear is the spiritual name of the site owner. Many people assume that she is a Native American man. Neither assumption is true. The name Dancing Bear came from a past life memory as a Sioux medicine woman.
